Biography

Mauricio de la Serna (26 November 1902 – 19 March 1986; sometimes reported as 20 March 1986) was a Mexican film director, screenwriter, and producer active in cinema from 1938 to 1979. From 1950 he resumed credited story work and expanded into screenplay writing; his first credited screenplay is commonly identified as a 1951 film directed by Julio Bracho, and one of his story credits served as the basis for a film directed by Luis Buñuel. In 1955 he debuted as director-screenwriter with Caras nuevas and is commonly credited with directing 23 feature films. He later worked in screen-industry administrative roles, including at Televisa’s film unit Televicine, and returned to directing in 1979 with Nora la rebelde.
